While Chatham-Kent’s mayor and council denounced the hateful messages one of their own, Coun. Rhonda Jubenville, received for suggesting that flags flying on municipal buildings be limited to three (federal, provincial and municipal), their “empathy” did little to support her or resolve the flag issue.

Jubenville says that elected officials should make important decisions such as the flag-flying policies and not leave it to staff.

Consider flags. No one is left out.  Every man, woman and child is affirmed, recognized and represented simultaneously and at three different levels – as Canadians, Ontarians and residents of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

C-K Council is capable of creating their own flag-raising policies without needing to consult with other communities. This is something that council should consider in the future.
