Belleville News-Democrat cuts print frequency again

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — The Belleville News-Democrat said Friday it would again slash the frequency of its printed newspaper, down to two days a week from six.

McClatchy Co. said that the print editions of the McClatchy newspaper will be published every Wednesday and Sunday, starting October 30. Due to the U.S. Postal Service, Sunday’s print edition will be delivered on Saturday. The publication stated that the delivery schedule of the U.S. Postal Service. The publication stated that an e edition will continue to publish 7 days a week.

“We’re also improving your digital experience,” said a post from Editor Jeffry Couch. “Over the next few months, we’re excited to launch a tablet program, new community calendar and portal for submissions, better eEdition navigation, a refreshed homepage that will provide unique experiences for our readers, and much more.”

Couch stated that this is a crucial step “in the transition to digital media in the news industry as well as a vital step towards the future sustainability of the Belleville News Democrat.”
